Running Through Doha

Our flight to Chicago was uneventful, except Jonathan got a little freaked out by having to take a bus across the tarmac to the international terminal. We got some tortas and got to our gate at just the right time to board for Doha. We ended up sitting next to a young Indian man going home to get married. Turns out though her family doesn't approve so they don't know about it. Drama!

The 12 hour flight went pretty well. We were fed meals twice and drink service several times. I watched a silly French movie called Three Days or something and later some episodes of Reacher. I dozed for a while a couple of times but no position was comfortable enough to really sleep. Jonathan seemed to sleep pretty well a couple of long stretches.

Well, then arriving in Doha, the excitement began. We had one hour to make the connection to Kathmandu and we're in the back of a huge plane. Then we were walking literally miles following signs for "transfers" that didn't seem to get anywhere. Once we got through a security checkpoint and saw the board, we saw the flight was in final call. We started running but it seemed another endless round of "Gates AB" signage. Jonathan ran ahead as he had a little more dream and I rushed with my big pack as fast as I could. Finally I got close and a man was asking me, "Kathmandu? Jenny?" and took my bag and ran with me. We ran to the plane, which to my relief was still finishing boarding so I didn't have to make a big public apology...

The next flight went pretty quickly with the annoyance of the man behind me talking nonstop and loudly. I napped some and we competed playing Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on the in-flight entertainment.

The arrival process went much more smoothly than I'd expected. We did have to get out of immigration line to get the photos. That was a little wait but we chatted in French to the Swiss lady behind us (who was spending her seork holiday in Nepal, a whole month, those lucky Europeans).

Getting the visa went fast and then we still had customs where there was yet another full scan. Something in my bag caught their attention and I ended up digging through and pulling out some jewelry bought as gifts.

Then we just had more endless walking to get out where very happily we immediately saw our ride from the 514 Guesthouse waiting for us. We settled in to our nice room around 2am and crashe
